Once you have agreed on the best solution, your dentist can begin the filling process. They will numb the affected tooth and surrounding area with a local anaesthetic. Sedation is also available for Nervous Patients. However, please bear in mind that you will be unable to drive/walk yourself home if you choose sedation.
Your dentist will prepare the tooth and surrounding area, removing decayed tissue and meticulously cleaning the tooth. They will then fill the tooth with your chosen material. When completed, your tooth will be fully functional again, and any toothache should quickly subside.
Several different types of filling material are available. Amalgam fillings are the most affordable option and very hard-wearing but also the least cosmetically pleasing due to their silver/black colour.
Composite fillings are a far more natural-looking alternative, made of a blend of powdered glass and acrylic resin. Also known as “white fillings,” this material closely matches the colour of your natural teeth for a seamless smile.
